A Car So Nice I Bought It Twice

That is not bad trick photography my friend. I now own two teal green 1994 Ford Escort Wagons. The problem is that there is a broken piston in the first one. I took it to a shop where a mechanic estimated that I would be out around $2500 to replace the engine in the car - then a second mechanic comes up and says "you wont believe this but a guy came in yesterday for an oil change with an identical car for sale and he only wants $1500 for it". So they pulled his oil change records, gave me his phone number and after some brief haggling I bought the car. I am planning on stripping the busted one and storing all of the parts out back to use as spares - much to my wife's dismay. I had briefly toyed with the idea of trying to pull another 1.9 liter engine out of a junkyard in an attempt to create a fully redundant Escort but she nixed that idea quickly. I have another great vision of turning our front yard into something like this but I am keeping quiet about it ... for now.

Werner Herzog Eats His Shoe

Les Blank is one of my heroes. My advice to you Dear Lurker, is simply this: See a Les Blank film. If you live near a college town, chances are good that one or two will turn up at an occasional documentary film festival. Some college libraries with decent film collections may have some of his movies available for private viewing as well. You can order them here of course, but if you found your way to this site and are still reading you are probably a personal friend of mine and none of my friends have the money to purchase movies site unseen off of the Internet. Cheap bastards - all of you!

Speaking of cheap, some fellow uploaded the entire film Werner Herzog Eats His Shoe to youtube. If you have the bandwidth and 20 minutes or so, You could be in for a real treat if you follow the link and check it out. It has been up for a while and I do not know if any copyrights are being violated here. I would have thought that it would have been yanked off of the site by now if Mr Blank knew about the posting and objected to the film being online for one and all to grab.




It is a great short documentary about dreams, courage and being true to your word and yourself as an artist - and it features a guy eating a shoe. The assistant cook in the film is Alice Waters and the magic ingredient is of course... Garlic.

Getting merely the gist of three commandments out of ten is pretty bad - especially if you are Congressman Lynn Westmoreland, R-Ga and you are actively campaigning to post the Old Testamant Decalogue in every courthouse and public building in America. Maybe he wants them posted publicly so he doesn't have to exert so much mental energy trying to remember them.

I think that the Eightfold Path should be posted instead. It contains 20 percent fewer rules to remember, it doesn't have any of this "jealous God" stuff in it that folks like to argue about, it is just as relevant to our legal system and isn't as likely to be blamed on the Jews by the folks who... well blame everything on the Jews.

Anyway, I wonder where Lynn Westmoreland got the idea of putting copies of the Ten Commandments up in courthouses anyway. Could it be Hollywood?

Garlic is as Good as Ten Mothers

Yes, Garlic is as good as ten mothers.

It is harvest time for onions and garlic here in Georgia which means that all of the foodie folks will be talking about Vidalia onions - as the sweet juicy onions way down south get all of the limelight for the allium genus around here it seems. I recently lucked up and found a guy who grows and sells some mighty tasty garlic at the local farmers market. If you have never had fresh garlic, you are missing out on a real treat. Garlic found in supermarkets could have been sitting around for months. It keeps well but there is a big increase in flavor when it has been out of the ground for just a couple of weeks or so.

Garlic is as good as ten mothers is also a great documentary by Les Blank.

Nirsoft.net has several cool password recovery tools as well as a tool to view and delete items from the Internet Explorer history and one that allows you to view all of the online passwords and auto-completed IE entries in the Widows Protected Storage.

I try not to use the password storing features of IE but every once in a while I get in a hurry and click the wrong option. These tools help me clean up my mess - not that I clicked on any of those links from gaywebmonkey mind you....
