World Of Geeks
Bedtime for the small child also means story time. I usually let her pick the book which means I face a steady rotation of Scooby Doo, Madeline and Dr Seuss. Some nights she wastes too much time deciding upon a story and I play an evil game wherein I pretend that I will choose the reading material. Then I reach for something that she will hate and start reading aloud (the Old Testament is perfect for this game).
Last night the small child hesitated and I went for the H.P. Lovecraft.
"The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity...."
At this point, the small child interrupted with a shout of "Daddy, YOU live in a world of GEEKS!"
She thus won the game. Pretty astute observation for a five year old too.
